Positive Stories

Positive Stories

This section of my blog is dedicated to all the positive stories that have come out of my blog since I started it. Some of these stories still completely blow my mind, but I am very grateful to God to have been able to impact people’s lives positively through this platform.

                                                    .                    .                    .

Hi Tunrie. My brother sent me the link to your blog and I knew immediately it was divine intervention. I am a second year law student at the University of Birmingham who will attain a first class degree and get accepted onto Oxford's BCL programme, all by the grace of God. You are such an inspiration. I was lying on my bed (trying to avoid my jurisprudence essay that is due next month) when I started reading your posts and you have been great encouragement. Unlike most on the course, I actually love jurisprudence very much. I had already read the works of some philosophers before starting my degree, but I am not in love with the way my law school teaches it. On another note though, I thank God for your obedience in making this blog. I would love to talk more if you have the time.

I just read your university/law journey, and I’m actually close to tears. Wow! It truly gives me a hope. Because even getting into law won’t be easy, but God has given me that confirmation I will. So I’m just going to push as hard as I can. Wow, your post is actually inspiring. May God continue to strengthen you, and even what you said about strength being a testimony, it actually is. Like nothing is possible without God. I pray that everyone who reads this, and is touched by it, receives the same blessing as you did in Jesus name, Amen.

                                                                                                Anonymous- 26/3/2017

Hi, I came across your blog today and found it rather inspiring, it’s so weird because I have been feeling under pressure about my law degree (I'm in my final year). I’m also studying at the University of Surrey, so when I found out that’s where you did your undegrad was like wow, God really sent me here for a reason. Going on further and reading different posts it was so weird because I dropped Commercial Law II as well for my second semester and I am doing Child Law and you have obviously done so well in your degree. Thank you for your inspirational blog x

I am in my fourth year studying law and I had resigned to fate until I read this. Thank you!

Hey! I love how you used words to make this tedious process seem concise and simple. I would like to apply to Oxford BCL for the 2018-2019 edition, and was extremely worried that I wasn't one of the top students of my batch. However, your blog has definitely been a motivation booster! I hope it all works out for the best! Keep writing and keep encouraging <3 Thank you for this ray of hope!

This is so amazing. Thanks for sharing your journey. It’s really encouraging to read about your journey. It’s inspiring to read and I like how articulate you are. Like you vividly picture everything. Like you said at the end of the post, you’re giving me positive energy. And I really needed it myself!

Thank you for this! it actually comes at a time when I probably needed some motivation and I have friends that would appreciate this.

Hey Tunrie. Truth is ... up until I read TwentytwoCrowns . I did not believe in myself. I had let studying law consume me. I could not trust my ability to write. But this semester, I'm determined to be hard working. Your blog is inspiration and such a comfort.

Hi Tunrie, you are definitely a God sent angel. I wish there was a Tunrie back in the day when I did my LLB. But nonetheless I am grateful for all your posts as I am applying the techniques to my MSc. One of the things I love about your blog posts is they aren't too serious and I always crack up when you write funny stories. Your posts are so inspirational. One of the things I've started to do also is to write down the % I would like to get for each module (i.e. coursework and exam). I now have a more positive attitude and outlook on life. I always try to put God first. I also love your website, it's very artistic and creative, so beautifully done.

One of my favourite articles on ' Legally Engaged' is "BCL (University of Oxford Masters of Law) interview with Tunrie Bisi-Afolabi." I like this because looking at Miss. Tunrie's background, I found myself identifying with her in more ways than one. Seeing how she was able to achieve a First despite a rocky beginning inspired me that I can truly be what I want to be if I just put in the "work and faith". Also, I found the article helpful because even though I'm not at the stage to study for a Masters, I can start preparing for what I need to get so that when the time comes, I won't be overwhelmed.

I have enjoyed reading this article, it is inspirational and encouraging to law students and teachers of Legal Method/Skills. This is excellent teaching material to guide and encourage law students.

Where do I even start, when you are given an insight into how such hard work comes about and living their experience with them. It’s truly a blessing. For those of us thinking of law school, or you are still in university and you are having doubts. Please read this post and the rest of her blog, it will truly bless your life. Actualize the statement “I can see my life turning around.” See how God can change things for you.

Good write up. As a law lecturer, I see this as unique and it strikes the core of what law students should imbibe to make it to the top in law. Will recommend this to my students to digest. Keep it up, Tunrie.

Honestly, that was a brilliant and useful read (So too are some of your other articles). Although its been a while since I completed my undergraduate education, my younger brother is in his first year of a law degree and I've sent this to him. This will however be helpful for me too as like you I will be embarking on a Masters in Law this year (time to move from a 2.1 student to a First class student). Keep up the good work and Congratulations on Oxford!

Hi, I'm a current student studying the LLB at the University of Birmingham. I have just had my results from second year. They were not what I was expecting. I was praying tonight whilst researching the BCL course at Oxford. I came across your blog and became so inspired by your faith and tenacity. Now I feel invigorated to start my final year with the knowledge that it's God's ability I can have faith in and not my own. I will refer back to your blog post throughout my final year. All the best with the BCL. Blessings

Hi Tunrie! I hope you're well - I just wanted to say thank you! I randomly opened your blog and your words of wisdom really inspired me. I'm studying Law at the University of York entering my third year. My journey to that place is an interesting (long) one. But literally you were in the same position as me! I read your blog and saw the overall average you needed to secure a first (72%) I thought must be nice! I wish mine was 72%. Then I continued to read and saw you needed to get 76% and I literally gasped (that's what I need). I was thinking God what are you doing right now. I continued to read, and I saw Evidence 95 - at that point I stopped reading and had to message you! I've been praying and prophesying that I'd get 95% in my disso. I don't know why I feel like God really sent your blog to reassure me . Thank you so so much! Congrats on all your success it's amazing to see! By God's grace I'll be able to join you on that first class wave! I'll be doing the hard work and the faith work!

I’m here at work, having a low day and I see your post and I thought ‘let me just read one’. Wasn’t sure what one to start from, but I opened your post- 'All you gotta do is believe'. You empowered me. I never leave comments but I said I should empower you like you have done me. God bless you for sharing. You really empowered me. This brought me to tears cos I felt like you were talking to me. You are an inspiration to me...age is but a number. Keep going!!!! The sky is your starting point. I pray God gives you the grace to keep going!

I am originally from India and I am pursuing my LLB law in London from London Metropolitan University. Firstly, you are an absolute inspiration to me. You’ve achieved all this and yet you’ve managed to stay so happy and glamorous. This is incredible. I am currently in my last year. I am applying to Oxford BCL for next year.

Hi Tunrie! I stumbled across your blog whilst searching for tips online about the LLM programmes, and specifically about the BCL. I'm very new to law, as I just graduated from King's College London with a degree in International Relations, and I’m three weeks into my law conversion. I am so inspired after reading your blog. Your positive energy is making me feel like I can do anything! (Maybe even get into Oxford or Cambridge, who knows)

Even though I don't know you personally, I'm so truly happy for all of your achievements. Few (especially those in competitive fields like Law) would take the time to encourage others, and try to show them the way to achieve. This must be one of the reasons God has blessed you with your accomplishments; because He knows that you want for others what you want for yourself. It would be my dream to be able to learn at either Oxford or Cambridge. Anyways, this turned into a much longer message than I had originally planned. I don't think I've ever written to a blogger or tried to get in touch with anyone, but I felt so inspired by your positivity that I just had to. Best of luck with whatever you plan to do in the future. You deserve all the success, which I'm sure is in your path.

Hey Tunrie! I came across your blog about a day ago and I've been binge reading it since! I'm a first year Law student at Royal Holloway (also in Surrey) and I've been worrying about all sorts since I started. But honestly, your blog is incredible! To see someone from Surrey who worked so hard and got on to Oxford's BCL course with self-determination and faith in God (as well as blood and sweat) is absolutely heartwarming! It's also crazy cool just how down to earth you come across and how you've inspired me to work at it and go for what I want. I thought I'd message you to say a huge thank you! Stay awesome, you're a legend.

Hi, I just want to say a massive thank you. I am in my final year at University of Manchester and I am studying Law. I didn’t finish very well in 2nd year and I was so discouraged over the summer but I told myself it wasn’t beyond fixing. I was searching on google ‘how to get a first’ and I stumbled on your blog and I read an article saying ‘do the hard questions’ for some reason that stuck even though I thought well that’s odd advice. Fast forward to the beginning of first semester and questions came out for Human Rights. I picked the hard question and even though I was about to give up because it was truly tasking, I stuck with it and by Gods special grace I got 85%. Since then I’ve been trying and trying to find your blog and just now I did and read your ‘it’s never too late’ post and honestly I just thank God that I didn’t give up looking for your blog either. It’s so encouraging and just thank you.

Wishing you alllll the best at Oxford! You will finish well by Gods grace. Thank you. Wow and it’s your birthday. Happy birthday ( from a friend you never knew you had)

Hey Tunrie! You don't know me, but I've been accepted to do the BCL in the 2018 - 2019 academic year. Just wanted to thank you for your blog post about the BCL admissions process, as I relied on it heavily while writing up my application!

Just some gratefulness towards such an inspiring human being. Hey there! I accidentally stumbled upon your blog, and I am so thankful to God for that. I am a first year law student but dejected lately because my first mooting experience didn't go as well and to say the least, it wasn't the most pleasant feeling. Anyway, your personal writing memoirs have filled me with so much of peace that I actually feel that I can conquer the world! It would be lovely to meet you someday in person but till then, do take care and lots of love. P.S- I want to do a BCL course at Oxford, but after reading your posts I have surrendered myself to God's wishes and it depends on him- wherever he want to takes me, I am willing provided he's on my side.

I am a fourth year Law with Spanish Law student at the University of Sheffield. I would just like to say thank you for your amazing blog posts: How to get a First Class in Law and It's Never too Late...to start studying! I stumbled across your blogposts when I was in the search of motivation as I had an unproductive day in the library attempting to write my dissertation. I found them very interesting as some of the things that you said really resonated with me. I'm not sure if you will ever read this or if this message will reach you, but I would just like to take this opportunity to THANK YOU. Your posts have given me strength when I needed it the most and I am going to do everything possible to work hard on my degree during these last few weeks. Thank you for being an inspiration!

Hi, I just thought to let you know how really amazing your blog is. Came across it two years ago and up till now, saying it’s still really helpful is an understatement. Went through it earlier today while trying to study for my law exam and it encouraged me a lot, increased my faith in the unlimited power of God and gave the additional push I needed. God bless you real good! You’re such a rare gem. Thank you x

Hi Tunrie, I just completed my LLB at Queen Mary. I am Nigerian and currently at the law school in Bwari. I wanted to say thank you so much for this blog, particularly for the law bits!!! Your posts were so helpful to me in the final year of my LLB last year when I discovered the blog during a very random google search along the lines of "HELP ME, I AM DYING IN LAW SCHOOL". Reading your words made my law school dreams seem all the more possible, like my hopes were not that crazy and unattainable. Happy to say I graduated with a First and just got my offer from Oxford for the BCL (Sept 2020)! I cannot believe I get to type that...I am still a little bit shell-shocked and I must admit that some tiny part of me is waiting for the 'wait wait! Sorry we made a mistake and sent the offer to the wrong student, oops' email. With all that's happening around the world right now, this is one of those positive things I can fixate on to keep up my morale.

Hi Tunrie, I got my second year results this past June and I was honestly distraught. Then I went for a programme at my church and the theme was "never again". I said to myself- never again will I doubt that I can make a first. I realised that the problem was that I have been working by my own strength the past two years. I would have breakdowns panic that I wasn't working hard enough. I would constantly tell myself that I couldn't take that hour off to go to church because I needed to study (meanwhile I'd probably end up giving myself a lie in). I've decided that iIm going to do it differently this final year. I will have God by my side and make sure He is with me at every step of my final year. (He already was but I just chose to ignore Him).

I was literally googling "how to write a first class essay" when I came across your blog and the post about your final year. Thank you so much for sharing your story! I cannot tell you how much it resonated with me and has motivated me to go for it. It truly is never too late and nothing is impossible with God! Thank you again and you have a new loyal subscriber. Xx

That was an excellent article and I feel soooo motivated honestly. Anyone that reads this article would be determined to get fa irst no matter how they are academically. I like how you beautifully brought the God factor into this and showed no matter how much efforts we put into our work, God's help plays the prime factor. There is sooo much that I learned from your words today and thank you. Thank you especially for reminding me how important seeking God's help is in all this.

This post bought me to tears, thank you. Words can’t express enough how much I'm grateful to you and to my Lord.
